Your Guide to Getting Started and Investing with Treeview Capital
Getting started with Treeview Capital is simple!
First, you will sign up as a client on our website. During this process, you will provide some basic information and complete our secure identity verification before e-signing an investment advisory agreement. This process takes about 5 minutes!
Once your account is set up, you can easily link your existing Charles Schwab brokerage account to fund your investments.
Our platform will then guide you through exploring our curated selection of private market funds. You can place orders for an interval fund on Schwab's website on your own - or submit a request to Treeview Capital for the electronic paperwork to purchase a tender offer fund.
The minimum starts at $5,000. Treeview Capital offers access to institutional-quality private market funds with significantly lower investment minimums than typically found elsewhere. These minimums vary by fund, but we've worked to make sophisticated strategies more attainable for individual investors. You'll see the specific minimum investment requirement listed for each fund on our platform.
Currently, Treeview Capital supports Charles Schwab brokerage accounts. We support all major account structures, including Individual, Joint, IRA, 401(k), Trust, Custodial, SEP-IRA, and Corporate/LLC business accounts.
Yes. Treeview Capital is designed to integrate seamlessly with your own Charles Schwab brokerage accounts. If you do not have one yet, you can establish an account directly through Schwab in just a few minutes. This ensures you maintain full ownership and visibility of your assets at all times.
Opening a Schwab account is a very straightforward and quick process.
Treeview Capital is designed to work seamlessly with your existing Charles Schwab brokerage account. During the onboarding process, you will securely link your Schwab account to our platform. This allows you to view your private market holdings alongside your standard stocks and bonds, providing a unified view of your entire portfolio.
Treeview Capital provides access to a diverse range of private market evergreen investment funds. These include various strategies within:
Private Equity: Investing in private companies for growth.
Private Credit: Lending directly to businesses for income.
Private Infrastructure: Investing in essential real assets like utilities.
Private Real Estate: Opportunities in properties and developments.
These funds may be structured as interval funds or tender offer funds to suit various investor needs.
Treeview Capital offers the Advisory or Class I (Institutional) share class for each fund on our platform. These are the highest-tier shares available and typically feature the lowest annual expense fees. By using our platform, you bypass the retail "sales loads" (commissions) and 12b-1 distribution fees often found in other share classes, ensuring more of your capital remains invested.
We offer institutional access to a wide range of investors. While some specific funds on our platform are restricted to Accredited Investors by federal law, many of our high-quality offerings are accessible to anyone meeting our $5,000 platform minimum. This allows you to build a sophisticated private market portfolio regardless of your current net worth status.
Most interval funds offer multiple "classes" of shares. The institutional shares we provide are generally not available for direct purchase by retail investors without a registered investment advisor (RIA) like Treeview Capital. Our platform acts as the bridge that unlocks these exclusive, lower-cost share classes for your existing Schwab account.
It is completely your choice. Many clients find it beneficial to open a separate Charles Schwab account specifically for investments made through Treeview Capital. This approach offers clear advantages:
Easier Tracking: It helps you easily track and manage these specific private market allocations, keeping them distinct from your other investments.
Simplified Reporting: It can simplify your personal record-keeping and tax reporting related to these particular funds.
However, if you choose to invest from an existing Schwab account, please be assured that Treeview Capital's management fees will only be charged on the investments that require an investment advisor for purchase. Your other investments held in that same Schwab account, which do not require an investment advisor to purchase, will not incur our fees.
Yes, Charles Schwab will keep track of these investments within your brokerage account. Your Schwab account will reflect your ownership of the shares in the various funds available via Treeview Capital. You'll see these holdings on your Schwab statements and online portal.
For your convenience, you will typically receive a Form 1099 from Charles Schwab for any income or distributions generated by the funds held within your Schwab brokerage account.
This simplifies your tax preparation significantly, as you will generally NOT receive complex K-1 forms from the underlying private funds. This streamlined tax reporting is a key benefit, making it easier to manage your annual tax filings without the extra burden often associated with direct private investments. We still recommend consulting with a tax professional for personalized advice.
We use a straightforward principle called asset aggregation to ensure you are placed in the most advantageous fee tier possible under our tiered schedule.
To calculate your annual advisory fee, we combine (aggregate) the total market value of all billable assets under advisement across all of your separate brokerage accounts linked to Treeview Capital. This combined, single value is then used to determine the applicable fee tier.
Example of Aggregation Benefit: If you have Account A with $150,000 and Account B with $150,000, we combine them for a total of $300,000. This places you in the 0.26% tier for both accounts, instead of the 0.28% tier if they were calculated separately.
Yes, potentially! While our website features a curated list of available funds, if you are interested in an interval fund or tender offer fund that is not currently listed, please let us know. We can explore its availability and, if appropriate and feasible, may add it to our list of funds to provide you with broader access.
If your Charles Schwab account contains investments that were initially purchased through another investment advisor, linking that account to Treeview Capital can offer you significant cost savings.
By having these assets within your Treeview Capital-linked account, they become eligible for our ultra-low management fees. This can potentially lead to substantial savings compared to the fees you might be paying with your previous advisor, especially if their fee structure is higher. Our goal is to consolidate and simplify your investment fees where possible, ensuring more of your money works for you.
No. We believe in total fee transparency and the removal of conflicts of interest. Treeview Capital does not charge performance fees or "carried interest" on your gains. Our only compensation is the low advisory fee based on your balance. This ensures our interests are perfectly aligned with the long-term growth of your portfolio.
No. Treeview Capital is your Investment Advisor, not your custodian or broker.
We provide the access, platform, and advisory function that allows you to purchase and hold these sophisticated funds in your Schwab account.
However, we do not have the legal authority or access to:
1. Make trades, sales, or purchases in your account.
2. Withdraw or transfer any funds from your Schwab account.
All trading and movement of assets are initiated and authorized solely by you, the client, directly through your account at the custodian (Schwab). You always retain full control over your funds.
No, an investment advisor will not call you for personalized, one-on-one advice. Treeview Capital operates as a cutting-edge robo-advisor platform, providing automated and personalized recommendations based on your profile and goals. This technology-driven approach allows us to offer access to institutional-quality funds with significantly lower management fees and minimums, prioritizing efficiency and accessibility for all our clients.
For the vast majority of funds on the Treeview Capital platform—approximately 70%—there are no transaction fees charged by Schwab to buy or sell shares. For the remaining 30% of funds, Schwab charges a standard $24 transaction fee per order. This is a pass-through cost from the custodian and is not a fee charged by Treeview Capital.
Short Answer: No. This specific fee does not apply to the types of funds you invest in through Treeview Capital.
Why doesn't this fee apply to my investments?
The $250 per position fee (up to $500 max) outlined in the Schwab custodial agreement is designed to cover the complex processing and reporting requirements for certain high-touch private investments, specifically:
1. Private Placements: Investments typically held directly in a limited partnership (LP) or other non-registered entity.
2. Illiquid Securities: Investments that require manual valuation and tracking.
Treeview Capital clients invest primarily in Interval Funds and Tender Offer Funds. These are highly regulated, registered investment products that are fully compatible with Schwab's automated custodial platform. Since these funds are treated as registered securities, they are not categorized as the "Non-Publicly Traded Securities" that trigger this specific custody fee.
In summary, you will not incur the Schwab Annual Custody Fee for the funds available on the Treeview Capital platform.
A Treeview Capital 5-Star Rating signifies a fund has demonstrated superior risk-adjusted performance and strong qualitative attributes compared to its peers. It is an objective, multi-factor evaluation that goes beyond just returns. We conduct a rigorous analysis of the fund across five key areas:
1. Performance: Evaluation of recent and historical returns, always adjusted for the level of risk taken.
2. Fees: Assessment of the fund's expense ratio to ensure fees are competitive and deliver strong value relative to its strategy.
3. Holdings: Review of the underlying portfolio for quality, diversification, and consistency with the fund's stated strategy.
4. Manager Quality: Due diligence on the investment team's experience, discipline, and tenure.
5. Strategy Peers: Direct comparison of all factors against a meticulously defined group of funds with a similar investment strategy.
The 5-Star Rating is an assessment of past achievement and current quality, designed to be a starting point for due diligence, not a prediction of future performance.
At this time, Treeview Capital is only available to investors who maintain a permanent U.S. residential address. Because our platform integrates directly with Charles Schwab and features private funds regulated under U.S. law, we are currently limited to serving U.S. residents.
Please note that even for U.S. citizens living abroad, a physical U.S. address (not a P.O. Box) is required by our custodial partners to open and maintain an account.
If Treeview Capital, your investment advisor, were ever to cease operations, your investments would remain safe and secure because your assets are held by an independent third-party custodian, like Schwab.
Here's what you need to know:
Your Investments Are Safe: You legally own the fund shares, and they are held in your name at a separate custodian (e.g., Schwab). Treeview Capital's closure does not affect the safety or ownership of your existing assets.
Access to Your Account: You'll maintain full access to your account, statements, and records directly through your custodian's online portal (e.g., Schwab).
New Purchases Stop: You will not be able to make new purchases of the funds, as the advisory service for transacting would be unavailable.
Selling Existing Shares: To sell your existing fund shares, you would contact your custodian, Schwab, directly. They would manage your participation in any available periodic repurchase offers (tender offers) for the funds you hold.
